Have No Fear in Traveling to Baja California in Mexico, My Engagement Story

Over the weekend I had by first adventure in Baja California visiting Rosarito, Ensenada, and Tijuana. I visited landmarks, attractions, and restaurants that I will never forget for the rest of my life. I enjoyed a beautiful beachfront view from the historic Rosarito Beach Hotel which was established in 1925. Here is a review of my outstanding weekend in Mexico from April of 2011 to add insight for travelers planning on visiting south of the border.  You should have no fear in traveling to Baja, I got engaged there and wanted to share my story.

Philip Friedman Outdoors coordinated this wonderful trip with assistance from 976-TUNA and Baja Now. I added links for anyone interested in these organizations. Philip and his team went through great lengths to ensure comfort and arrangements were made for first time travelers like myself. I was truly surprised how quickly the structural landscape changed from the area of the border to Tijuana and again through the rest of Baja California and Mexico. The shanty buildings from the boom and bust of tourism through the recession stand as visible reminders of that period.

What remains and surpasses these brief periods are the wonders and natural beauty of Mexico and Baja California that have proven to be timeless. The service in the restaurants and tourist outlets was warm and welcoming. The environment was safe and secure. At no point during my trip through Baja did I feel unsafe or insecure. Within hours I was walking through the streets of Rosarito exploring some of the best food I had ever had including omelets, enchiladas, seafood, beans, and rice that was the best I have ever tasted.

The beauty of the beach matches any other on the Pacific West Coast of North America. The air was clear from a fresh rain and the sunset sparkled beautifully against the endless ocean view. Dozens of vendors and storefronts offer unique shopping outlets for those intrigued and the dining range is wide from seafood to traditional foods from around the world. Certainly the Mexican specialties are prepared of the highest caliber to offer visitors some of the best cuisine in the world.

Romantic opportunities abound in Mexico and offered the perfect opportunity for a marriage proposal which I was fortunate enough to capture during a private dinner by candle light. I will never forget this event for the rest of my life. Visiting landmarks like the fishing village Popotla and La Buffadora were fantastic outings that everyone should see.

The entire trip was simply unforgettable. Nearly three hours of video and three hundred pictures will be reminders of my first trip to Mexico which will hopefully not be my last. If you would like to know more about my trip please visit my podcast to hear all about it.

very nice article and an interesting account.thanks foe sharing

I did a lot of off-roading in the Baja back in my racing days. The Baja had a way of really testing the mettle of men and the endurance of machines.

What a wonderful story!
